The gender reveal is the event where the setup competes hardest with the moment itself. The big moment — the balloon burst, the confetti cannon, the cake cut — is what people will remember. But the photos that surround it are framed by the furniture and styling in the space.
Getting the setup right does not require a professional event stylist. It requires a few good decisions about furniture.
Cocktail tables ($20 each with cover): Two to four tables for a gender reveal of 20 to 40 guests. Tables create gathering points and give guests somewhere to put their drinks while they wait for the moment.
Bar stools ($5 each): Gender reveals tend to be shorter events. Two stools per table is usually sufficient.
Cake plinth ($50): If there is a reveal cake — and for many gender reveals, the cake is the reveal — the plinth is the most important piece of furniture you hire. It puts the cake at the right height and creates a clean setup for the photos and video of the reveal moment.
The most important decision is where to put the plinth and cake. That spot needs to:
Once the plinth position is decided, the cocktail tables go around the perimeter, creating the gathering zone where guests hold drinks and wait.
White furniture is the strong default here. White tables and stools are neutral. They do not compete with your pink, blue, or neutral reveal palette. They do not look wrong in photos no matter what colour confetti, balloons, or cake frosting is involved.
For a 30-guest gender reveal:
3 tables ($60) + 8 stools ($40) + 1 plinth ($50) = $150
