Bar stools do a lot of work at a party that nobody really notices. Get them right and your guests are comfortable, your tables look finished, and your photos come out clean. Get them wrong and you spend the whole night watching people hover awkwardly or drag chairs from across the room.
This guide covers everything you need to know about cocktail bar stool hire in Sydney — sizing, colours, quantities, delivery, and what to watch out for when booking.
A cocktail bar stool is a tall stool designed to pair with cocktail tables, which sit at around 1.1 metres high. The stool height means guests can sit comfortably at the table without hunching or perching on the edge of something too short.
They are different from regular dining chairs. Regular chairs are designed for standard tables around 75cm high. Put a regular chair next to a cocktail table and your guest is sitting at chest height to the table surface, which looks odd and feels worse.
Cocktail bar stools in Sydney hire are most commonly used at birthday parties, weddings, corporate events, baby showers, and hens nights.
Our cocktail bar stools are $5 each. They come in black or white.
To that, you add delivery if you are not picking up from our Kingsgrove base:
There is no minimum order, so you can hire the exact number you need without paying for extras you will not use.
Cocktail tables are $20 each with a cover included, so a typical setup of five tables and sixteen stools works out to around $180 in furniture, before delivery.
Two stools per table is the minimum if you want people to actually sit. Three is comfortable. Four is fine for a tighter layout where guests are grouped closely together.
For a party of 50 guests:
Most event setups do not put stools at every table. A common approach is to have two or three tables with stools as dedicated seating spots, while the remaining tables are used for drinks and mingling at standing height. That way you cater to guests who need to sit without turning the whole event into a seated dinner.
If you have older guests or children attending, add more stools than you think you need.
Both colours work well. The choice depends on your event’s palette.
White stools look light, airy, and photograph beautifully against natural backdrops, balloon garlands, and floral arrangements. They suit garden parties, baby showers, bridal showers, and anything going for a soft or elegant look.
Black stools have a sharper, more polished feel. They suit milestone birthdays, corporate functions, and events with a dark or monochrome colour scheme. They also photograph well against bright backdrops where white might wash out.
Mixing black and white can work if you want contrast, but it needs to be intentional. One colour per event is usually cleaner.
If you are not sure, our tables come with white or black covers, and matching stools to the cover colour is an easy default.
We are based in Kingsgrove and deliver across Sydney within roughly 35km of our base. That covers:
The St George region (Hurstville, Kogarah, Rockdale, Bexley, Beverly Hills) is our closest delivery zone, so rates are lowest there.
The Inner West (Newtown, Marrickville, Leichhardt, Burwood, Strathfield) is well within our range.
The Eastern Suburbs (Bondi, Coogee, Randwick, Maroubra) and the CBD and surrounds (Surry Hills, Pyrmont, Darlinghurst) are covered at the 10-20km rate.
South Sydney and the Sutherland Shire (Sutherland, Miranda, Cronulla, Caringbah) fall within the 20-30km bracket.
Further out locations like Parramatta, the Hills District, and the Northern Beaches are possible but attract a higher delivery fee. It is worth calling to confirm before you assume it is too far.
Birthday parties: Stools are almost always a good idea at birthday parties, especially if the event runs longer than two to three hours. Nobody wants to stand for four hours, no matter how good the DJ is.
Weddings: Cocktail hour seating is one of the things couples underestimate. Guests have usually been standing through the ceremony and photos before they even get to the cocktail hour. A few well-placed stool-and-table setups are welcome.
Corporate events: Networking functions work well with bar stools because they allow people to sit and chat at the right height without going fully into dinner mode. It keeps the energy moving.
Baby showers and bridal showers: These tend to have a mix of ages, so good seating matters. Having four stools per table rather than two is worth it here.
Are the stools comfortable for a long event?
Yes. They are designed for event use and are sturdy and comfortable for several hours of use.
Can I mix bar stools and regular chairs?
You can, but regular chairs will not sit at the right height for cocktail tables. If you want a mix of seated options, bar stools at the cocktail tables and a separate lounge or chair area works better.
