The Cake Plinth: What It Is, What It Costs, and Why Every Event Needs One

If you’ve never heard of a cake plinth, you’re not alone. Most people don’t know they exist until they see one at an event — and then they can’t imagine their own setup without it.

What Exactly Is a Cake Plinth?

A cake plinth is a tall, freestanding pedestal or column that elevates a cake (or any display item) to eye level. Instead of your cake sitting on a regular table where it gets lost among plates and drinks, it stands on its own at around waist to chest height, front and centre.

Ours come with a fitted cover in black or white to match your cocktail table setup. The result is a clean, professional-looking display piece that draws attention to whatever you place on top.

What Events Use a Cake Plinth?

Honestly, almost any event that has a cake or a centrepiece. The most common ones we see:

  • Weddings — the wedding cake gets its own dedicated stage
  • Milestone birthdays — 21st, 30th, 40th, 50th celebrations
  • Gender reveals — the reveal cake becomes the focal point
  • Christenings and baptisms — a styled cake display for the celebration
  • Baby showers — elevates the cake or gift display
  • Engagement parties — a simple way to add a polished touch

If there’s a cake involved, there should be a plinth underneath it. It’s that simple.

It’s Not Just for Cakes

While the name says “cake plinth,” plenty of our customers use it for other things:

  • Flower arrangements — a tall vase or bouquet at eye level
  • Photo displays — framed photos of the guest of honour
  • Awards or trophies — at corporate events or presentation nights
  • Auction items — at charity events or fundraisers
  • Welcome signs — a sign or guest book at the entrance

Anything you want to highlight and give prominence to works well on a plinth.

What Does It Cost?

A cake plinth hire is $50, including the matching cover in your choice of black or white. That’s the same 4-day hire period as all our other items — no rush to return it the next morning.

At $50, it’s the single item that makes the biggest visual difference to an event setup. A cocktail table organises your guests. A plinth organises the room’s attention.

How It Fits With Your Order

Most people add a cake plinth on top of their cocktail table order. Here’s what a typical setup looks like:

  • 4 cocktail tables (white covers): $80
  • 8 bar stools (white): $40
  • 1 cake plinth (white): $50
  • Total furniture: $170

Add delivery within 10km of Kingsgrove ($200 return) and you’re at $370 for a complete, coordinated event setup. Or pick up from Kingsgrove for free and pay just $170.

The plinth matches the tables and stools, so everything looks like it belongs together. No mismatched furniture, no DIY workarounds.

Why People Love It

We’ve supplied furniture to over 460 events since 2019, and the cake plinth consistently gets the strongest reaction. People walk into the venue, see the cake elevated on its own column, and immediately notice it.

It photographs well, it creates a natural gathering point, and it makes even a simple sponge cake from the local bakery look like a centrepiece worth celebrating.

For $50, it’s the easiest upgrade you can make.
