Baby showers have changed. What used to be a small gathering with sandwiches and a card has become, in many Sydney households, a properly styled event. Themed backdrops, dessert tables, floral arrangements, custom cakes. If you are hosting or organising one, the furniture is a bigger part of the overall look than it used to be.

The good news: you do not need much. A few well-placed cocktail tables, some stools, and a plinth for the cake can do most of the heavy lifting.

What to Hire for a Baby Shower

Cocktail tables ($20 each with cover): These are the workhorses of any cocktail-style event. Guests gather around them, set down drinks and food, and they double as display surfaces for grazing boards and decorations.

Bar stools ($5 each): Baby showers often have a mix of guests including pregnant women, older relatives, and new mothers with babies. Good seating is not optional here. Plan for enough stools to seat at least half the guests at any given time.

Cake plinth ($50): Baby shower cakes are frequently beautiful and expensive. The plinth gives the cake or dessert display a proper elevated position that photographs well.

How Many Tables and Stools?

For a baby shower of 20 to 30 guests:

  • 3 to 4 cocktail tables
  • 10 to 14 stools (more than you might expect — baby showers skew towards more seated guests)

For 40 to 50 guests:

  • 5 to 6 tables
  • 16 to 20 stools

Baby showers typically have a longer seated phase than a birthday cocktail party. It is worth erring on the side of more seating rather than less.

Colour for a Baby Shower

White is the dominant choice for baby showers in Sydney. It works with every baby shower theme and palette — sage green, dusty pink, powder blue, terracotta, white and gold — and photographs cleanly against floral and balloon backdrops.

One colour across all furniture is cleaner. White is the right default unless you have a specific reason to go another way.

4 tables ($80) + 12 stools ($60) + 1 plinth ($50) = $190 in furniture

Delivery within 10km of Kingsgrove: $200 return. Total: $390.
Delivery within 20km (Inner West, Eastern Suburbs): $300 return. Total: $490.

Making the Space Look Good

Position the plinth as the main focal point. Cake or dessert display goes here, ideally in front of your backdrop.

Use two tables for the food and drink display and one or two for guest seating.

Add stools to every table. Baby shower guests sit. Do not make them search for a chair.
